Introducing LifeStrategy Global – a new way to diversify your portfolio

Discover Vanguard LifeStrategy Global funds – a new range of ready-made portfolios designed to align with global markets and provide instant diversification.

We’re delighted to announce the launch of the Vanguard LifeStrategy Global funds. This new range of ready-made portfolios invest in line with global markets and give investors even more choice when it comes to building a diversified portfolio.

What are LifeStrategy Global funds?

The LifeStrategy Global funds are the latest addition to our flagship family of multi-asset funds. Each fund is a ready-made portfolio, built using our low-cost index funds. They provide access to thousands of shares and bonds1 from around the world in a single investment, giving you instant diversification.

With five different blends of shares and bonds, you can choose the mix that matches your goals and attitude to risk:

  • LifeStrategy Global 20% Equity Fund (20% shares, 80% bonds)

  • LifeStrategy Global 40% Equity Fund (40% shares, 60% bonds)

  • LifeStrategy Global 60% Equity Fund (60% shares, 40% bonds)

  • LifeStrategy Global 80% Equity Fund (80% shares, 20% bonds)

  • LifeStrategy Global 100% Equity Fund (100% shares, 0% bonds)

The LifeStrategy Global 20% Equity Fund is the lowest-risk option. It’s aimed at investors with shorter-term goals (they may need their money in 3–5 years) who prefer less risk and accept lower potential returns. The LifeStrategy Global 100% Equity Fund is aimed at investors who have longer-term goals (they may need their money in 10 years, or longer) who are willing to take on more risk for the potential of higher returns.

How do they differ from the existing LifeStrategy range?

Our existing LifeStrategy funds have the same five ratios of shares and bonds and are also globally diversified. However, they have a greater focus on the UK than is typical in global markets. This is known as ‘home bias’. In contrast, LifeStrategy Global funds invest in line with global markets, which mean they have a lower UK focus.

The proportion of shares that invest in the UK is around 3% for LifeStrategy Global versus approximately 25% for LifeStrategy. The proportion of bonds that are denominated in British pounds is around 4% for LifeStrategy Global versus around 35% for LifeStrategy.

Following a review, we’re reducing the existing range’s UK exposure to further help each fund meet its objectives. The proportion of UK shares and the proportion of UK bonds will both decrease to around 20%. This reduction will start on 27 March and is due to complete by the end of June.

Why introduce a global range?

We know that every investor is different. Some prefer the familiarity of a UK-focused portfolio, while others want to align their investments more closely with global markets. By launching LifeStrategy Global, you can select the option that best suits your preferences.

How to choose between the two fund ranges

Choosing between LifeStrategy and LifeStrategy Global comes down to your personal goals and preferences. Here are some factors to consider:

  • LifeStrategy funds: may be suitable if you like the familiarity of UK companies and markets, prefer to invest in the local economy, think there’s less risk in the UK market and want greater sterling exposure.

  • LifeStrategy Global funds: may be suitable if you prefer to invest in a way that reflects global markets, don’t want to risk being more invested in the UK market and don’t want to be more exposed to sterling.

Bonds are a type of loan issued by governments or companies, which typically pay a fixed amount of interest and return the capital at the end of the term.
