How to get value

To get value out of your Vanguard account and reduce the risk of fees and charges eroding your investmnent pot, you should make regular contributions and regularly review the level and frequency of these.

A few ways you can do this:

  • set up a monthly savings plan, with a sufficient investment amount
  • make lump sum deposits, with the expectation that this occurs regularly over time
  • transfer other investments or savings into Vanguard from another provider

For example, if you start with an invested account balance of:

  • £500 – you may want to consider contributing £150 a month as part of a monthly savings plan, or £1,800 in total lump sum contributions across the year
  • £1000 – you may want to consider contributing £100 a month as part of a regular savings plan, or £1,200 in total lump sum contributions across the year

You should ensure any contribution amount is right for you, fits with your risk appetite and does not go over the account allowance.

It is important you are prepared to pay our account fee and other applicable fees and charges – further information on our fees and charges.

Our platform is not suitable for you

Your need
Not suitable
I want ‘traditional’ non-digital services, such as dealing over the phone and
receiving paper statements by post.
I do not want to take any investment risk.
I want to only invest over a short period. Ideally, you should invest for 5 years or more.
I am unlikely to make contributions into my Vanguard account. If I do make contributions
they won’t be enough to stop fees and charges from eating into my returns.
I want a large amount of cash in my account rather than invest it in funds.
I want a guaranteed investment return.
I want to invest in funds managed by firms other than Vanguard. I want to invest in shares of companies.
I want financial advice from Vanguard.
I am a US person (for example a US citizen or US resident).
I want to open an account as a joint partnership or corporate entity. The UK Personal Investor Platform is only available to individuals (that is, natural persons).
I do not have an account with a UK bank.
